Hi! I’m Michaela, a 20-something year old yoga teacher, Certified Culinary Nutritionist and Health and Lifestyle Coach. My passion for living a healthy and happy life led me to create Eat. Feel. Live.  Our mission is to help you achieve optimal health and live your definition of a happy life through helping you develop an understanding of the connection between nutrition and lifestyle habits and the health of not just your body, but also your brain! We also hope to help you teach your little one the same! 

How did I get to where I am today?

When I was 19 years old, I created my first blog which consisted of updates on my fundraising leading up to my volunteer trip in Guatemala and then my adventures along the way. I called that blog “Desire To Inspire” in hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams like I was beginning to do myself. At the time, my dream was to travel the world and help others wherever I could along the way.

That was in 2014, now my dream is the same, but the way I am going about it is a little different. I began to have a growing passion for living a happy and healthy lifestyle and this was when my blog transformed from “Desire To Inspire” to Eat. Feel. Live.. Now, my travels around the world and desire to help others along the way have taken a focus towards helping others learn to live a similar lifestyle.

 

I say happy AND healthy, rather than just one or the other, because I believe you cannot have one without the other. Let me tell you a little bit about my story to give you a better understanding of this…

I’m not sure exactly when it started, sometime around my first summer home from college, I began making changes in my lifestyle and diet in order to be, what I thought was, healthy. I went through phases of trying smoothie cleanses, going to the gym everyday, eating a high animal-based protein diet, becoming pescatarian, then vegetarian and finally I landed where I am today— following a plant-based, vegan diet and lifestyle.

I found that all of the phases that I went through in the past, I could
not stick with. This was because they either felt like a chore (going to the gym everyday and sticking to the same old workouts) or I was depriving myself (only smoothies for 7 days?!). The difference between those phases and following a plant-based, vegan lifestyle for me is the freedom. Everyday I am trying something new. I am finding different foods and different ways they benefit my health. I am learning different ways to recreate my favorite “unhealthy” meals and snacks, to make them nourishing and healing. I am eating foods that energize me, rather than foods that leave in me in a “food coma” for hours, unable to focus or be productive. I used to despise getting home after my 9 to 5 and having to figure out what to cook. Now, I am excited to explore in the kitchen and fuel my body!

But it isn’t just my diet changes that have helped me create a happy and healthy life. I started to make other lifestyle changes too. Sometimes we forget that our mind and body are connected. We can fuel our bodies with all the best foods, but if our daily actions are not healing and healthy as well than our body will still suffer and so will our mind. We will constantly be searching for happiness without obtaining it.

In order to make sure my daily actions were matching my new healthy lifestyle, I started to change where I was focusing my energy. I began practicing yoga, let go of relationships that were not nourishing, quit my 9 to 5 and bought a plane ticket to the other side of the world, started writing poetry and put my energy into creating my business.

(Now, I’m not saying you need to quit your job and buy a plane ticket like I did… but I’m sure you can think of one thing in your daily life that is not benefiting your health and that is where you should start.)

After being on my personal healing journey for sometime I decided I wanted to help others start on their own path to health and happiness.

Throughout my culinary nutrition program, I kept finding myself returning to the idea that when we talk about health, we are not just talking about the body, but also the health of our mind. When we do not take care of our mind, our body suffers and vice versa. Recognizing this led me to focus my nutrition studies on mental health and develop my Healing Foods for Depression Workshop.

But I didn’t stop there. This realization led me to dive deeper into my yoga practice and it was here that I began to recognize that it wasn’t just about fueling our mind with nutritious foods that will lead to a healthy brain, but it was also about how we spend our time, our hobbies…our lifestyle. So next up for me was Yoga Teacher Training.

It is now 2020, I am a Certified Culinary Nutritionist and Registered Yoga Teacher, but I don’t plan to stop here. There is always new knowledge emerging in the world of holistic health and I will continue to learn and grow with this field.

One thing that I have learned through my own experience is that the idea of a happy and healthy lifestyle looks different to everyone. My goal is to help YOU learn to live a happy and healthy life that allows you to feel free and alive, whatever that means to you.
